Thank you all for your patience with us as we've undergone some wonderful changes at the Naples Library. It is our great pleasure to introduce Bev Higgins, our new family programming director, who will be taking my place (although I will still be having fun with the Naples pre-K crew). Right now, Bev is busily brainstorming the 2011 Summer Reading Program, "One World, Many Stories," and we can't wait to see what she has in store for summer reading fun! Welcome, Beverly!

If you haven't been into the library for a while, we invite you to come explore our newly renovated space, including our new childrens' rooms in which we are continually adding fun, creative, new features to tickle your imagination.

Axl is Back!

Everybody loves our visiting therapy dog, Axl. Back by popular demand, Axl and his handler, Deborah Jones will be returning monthly (every third Thursday afternoon) until June to listen to your favorite books. In short, each K-6 student who logs in seven hours of recreational reading may earn ONE FREE admission ticket to Darien Lake (for use during July, 2010 only)! Elementary students may take advantage of this program through their classrooms, while home schooled students may access paperwork below:

Befriending Bluebirds

--A hearty THANK YOU from the Naples Library to John Rogers and Cumming Nature Center for providing an EXCELLENT bluebird program this past Saturday. My kids and I have painted (linseed oiled, actually) our boxes and they await purchase of poles upon which to erect them. Already our older boxes (from the last time John came to Naples) have bluebird eggs and we're anxiously awaiting this year's nestlings. If you constructed a box on Saturday--feel free to post a blog entry if you've had any residents move in! We'd love to hear from you about your birds. Also, CLICK ON THE TITLE OF THIS BLOG POST to go to the NYS Bluebird Association website for lots of great bluebird info, forums, and even a live nestbox cam. Have fun!

Take wing to Cumming Nature Center with the whole family for a slide presentation by “Mr. NYS Bluebird,” John Rogers. A recognized expert on the subject of bluebirds, Mr. Rogers’ slide program on the natural history/nest box management of bluebirds will educate, entertain, and inspire. If the fact that he’s helped fledge over 11,000 bluebirds from over 250 nest boxes ranging over 50 miles of territory doesn’t tempt you to learn more from this passionate bluebird man, then perhaps building a nest box of your own might:
